Gemini Deep Research can use Google Search by default and, when connected and available, other sources such as Drive or Gmail. Availability and limits vary.
1. Open Deep Research
In Gemini, choose Deep Research from the available tools or Add Files area when it is shown on your account.
2. Define the research brief
Write the question, why you need the answer, date range, geography and the format of the final report.
3. Choose the source set
Keep Google Search for live-web research, and add or remove connected sources such as Drive or Gmail when those sources are relevant and permitted.
4. Inspect and edit the research plan
Review the planned sub-questions before starting. Add missing comparisons, constraints or source requirements.
5. Audit the final report
Open important citations, check dates and distinguish evidence from Gemini’s interpretation. Re-run or follow up when a key source is missing.
Deep Research brief: Question: [question]. Decision: [what this supports]. Date range: [range]. Geography: [region]. Use: [Google Search / selected connected sources]. Prefer primary sources. Before starting, show me the research plan and gaps you expect.
Leaving every connected source enabled by default; not reviewing the research plan; assuming a Drive/Gmail result is automatically current or authoritative; treating the generated report as a substitute for opening sources.
Finish check
You should know exactly which source set was used, what the plan covered, and which citations support the report’s central claims.
