Study mode is intended for regular ChatGPT conversations and can work with uploaded notes or images when uploads are available. It is not a substitute for your course rules or instructor.
1. Tell it what you already know
Start with your level, goal and deadline. Ask Study to diagnose gaps before teaching. A good first question is “what should I already understand before this topic?”
2. Ask for guidance, not the final answer
For a problem, request one hint or one question at a time. If you are preparing for an exam, ask it to make you retrieve the idea before showing the explanation.
3. Attach the real learning material
Upload the syllabus, lecture notes, worksheet or textbook excerpt and point to the exact page or section. Ask Study to stay aligned with that material.
4. Alternate explanation and retrieval
After each concept, close the loop with a short question, worked example or “explain it back” task. Ask it to increase difficulty only when your answer is correct.
5. End with a mastery test
Request a small mixed quiz without answers visible first. Grade your response, list misconceptions and produce a short plan for what to review next.
Teach me this topic in Study mode. First diagnose my prerequisites with three short questions. Then teach one concept at a time, make me answer before giving the explanation, and finish with a 5-question quiz plus a list of my weak points.
Using Study just to obtain homework answers; answering every check with “I don’t know”; uploading materials but never pointing to the relevant section; mistaking familiarity for mastery.

You can explain the core idea without looking, solve at least one new example, and name the exact misconception or prerequisite that still needs work.
