Projects help keep reusable context around a sustained objective. Knowledge and sharing features can depend on your Claude plan or organization settings.
1. Create a Project around one outcome
Name the project after the work product or decision it supports.
2. Add project knowledge
Upload the relevant documents, code or reference material that Claude should use across chats. Remove superseded material.
3. Set project instructions
Define terminology, audience, preferred output, source rules and recurring constraints once at project level.
4. Start separate chats for separate tasks
Keep research, drafting, review and implementation in separate threads when that makes evidence and revisions easier to track.
5. Refresh the knowledge base
When a source changes, replace it and note the effective date so old information does not silently remain authoritative.
Project rules: Goal: [goal]. Primary sources: [files]. Audience: [audience]. Use these definitions: [terms]. For every factual claim, prefer project knowledge and flag conflicts or missing evidence. Output by default as [format].
Dumping every file into one project; keeping duplicate versions; using one giant chat for every task; forgetting to update project instructions after the objective changes.
Finish check
A useful Project should reduce repeated setup, not create a larger pile of context that nobody can audit.
